Fourth of July Stars & Stripes, aka..sun spots & fine lines

IMG_5288FullSizeRender                 HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!

Though its been raining for 3 days straight in St. Louis, and I’m not necessarily soaking up the sun (only rain), I still follow my SPF regimen because the sun still shines through the (enter curse word here) clouds.

There are 4 main products that I’ve been using on my face, and I have consistently been using them for about a month now and they have all shown great results as I haven’t gotten sun burn, and I have no additional sun spots on my face (none that I will admit to).

I discover many of the products I use through magazines or referrals, and have yet to be steered wrong. My daily regimen always consists of Clinique’s Repair Serum, Rodan & Fields Redefine Eye Cream, and now that it summer I’ve changed to a new face cream by Josie Maran. I originally chose it as a sample with my Sephora points and ending up loving it. It has pure argan oil, jojoba oil, green tea, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and SunBoost ATB™, which is packed with antioxidants and hydrators to protect you from the sun and nourish your skin at the same time. Its non greasy and smells amazing!!

While most women may not apply foundation or anything tinted on a pool day, or a lounge day, I always apply some kind of tinted product. However, if you don’t wear the right one you will end up looking like a streaky mess as soon as you break a sweat. I have been faithfully using MAC Lightful C Tinted Cream in medium. It has an additional SPF 30, which you can never get enough of. It gives me the perfect amount of coverage, and you can’t even tell I’m wearing makeup. It immediately reduces the redness in my skin from my rosacea, and overtime, it also reduces the appearance of dark spots, and fine lines and wrinkles. Who doesn’t want that?

In addition to needing SPF coverage on your face we have some areas that we all forget, around the eyes, hands and your lips. While I wear sunglasses everyday regardless of rain or shine, I have been using an SPF stick by Sugar that I also picked up at Sephora. Its great to rub around your lips…..don’t forget to go slightly above your lips…. those fine lines appear due to sun damage. I don’t know about you, but I’m not a big fan of my lipstick bleeding up, NOT a good look. This stick is water resistant and great for on the go.

And of course I need a product for the mid day touch up. Usually by 2pm, I’m shiny and sweaty and if I haven’t reapplied anything on my face, I’m starting to get a tad red. This is when I apply my Colorescience Loose Mineral Sunscreen. Its tinted for your skin color, and you choose a matte or shimmer powder. Needless to say, I have the one with some shimmer. I also apply this on my chest and my shoulders if they are exposed, and I’ve yet to burn since I started using it. Note…….I purchased mine on Amazon as I have noticed the pricing is not consistent and the Colorescience site seems to be the most expensive. It does last about 3 months.

I hope this helps all of you sun goddesses or non sun goddesses out there! Have a wonderful Independence Day and stay safe!

Beach Waves

What better way to wear your hair in the summer time, than to have that “I just came from the beach” tousled hair. I find it to be the easiest way to get away with my 3 day “no washing my hair” routine.

I have had many people ask me to show them how I create my waves in my hair, as its become part of my daily routine and take me about 8 minutes to do from start to finish. I have curled all different hair types and lengths and with the right techniques ANYONE can have fun, way hair.

Now, this is the part I hate. I have recorded so many videos and hate how they make me look, but I have gotten over it today, and am posting a video on how I create my beach waves! PS…..Its so true that the camera adds 10 lbs….I need photo shop on my phone, pronto.

The products I used on my hair are Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo and I used Lavett & Chin Original Sea Salt Mist, which has been my favorite sea salt spray thus far.

Embrace the Face (this post may or may not be a rant to myself)

I never thought that in my 30’s, I would struggle with aging. Its not the age that bothers me, but the slight lines developing on my forehead (I’m very animated), the number 11 in between my eyes, (that’s what the Botox was for), and the suns spots on the side of my face (Rodan & Fields better pull through). Now, many might say “Those lines are natural, aging is beautiful”. C’mon ladies, you know as well as I do that we have to try 10x as harder as men in the morning. We wear makeup for a reason, we have to color our hair, and exercise more often, and the list gets longer as we get older.

I’m not saying that I’m not happy with myself, I’m saying that I am beginning to embrace my face as I age. The positive to this entire aging process is that 1. I am more happier in life as every year passes (hens the laugh lines), and 2. I seem to feel a bit more confident about myself as time goes on. I have been told that I must have a ton of confidence because I take selfies of myself everyday. NOT TRUE….. my selfies are taken to talk about what I may use on my face to defy the aging process, or to cover up the slight imperfections that drive me crazy, with the hope that the products I use, can be suggested to others.

I am also aware that their are many other things to be concerned with in life, but I have a beauty blog so these are the things I am currently thinking about. I have posted some photos of a few of the many beautiful women in my life, that embrace their face at every age. (If you are not posted, its because you didn’t send me a selfie, or I couldn’t find a selfie to steal off of FB) I still love you……

My favorite part about getting together with my girlfriends is that we are always sharing natural facial remedies, beauty products, exercise routines, and recipes and then I get excited to share them with others. Many of us have the same concerns, but are scared to share them. I feel that we all need to support each other and give advice (when needed and perhaps asked), but if we can all embrace this process that we cannot avoid together, it make s it that much easier!! Amen

Flawless Vacation

IMG_4771IMG_4775

What a whirlwind of a vacation! I traveled to Nashville, spent time with a good friend who visited from Chicago, and had an amazing Memorial Day weekend which included a day at a friends summer home……with cocktails…..and 20 kids in a lake. Yikes…that actually sounds like a DCFS call……anyway…….I had 10 days off…..in a row! I cant remember the last time I did that. Perhaps it was my honeymoon, 13 years ago! I wish my beauty routine was as simple as it was then also. I never wore makeup (didn’t have too), and didn’t have a concern at all about protecting my 24 year old skin. So now I pay……but I do enjoy the play of discovering new beauty products.

During my 10 days off, I wore minimal makeup, though this might seem like a bit much for others. My vacay routine takes me 4 minutes (I timed it for you). Even though I wear moisturizer with SPF 30, I also wear a tinted, color correcting cream on top, that also has SPF 30 coverage. It gives me the perfect amount of coverage, but its not a foundation so it doesn’t drip off in the summer heat. Its very light and is infused vitamin C.

Next, I quickly dab concealer under my eyes (with my ring finger, of course) for easy coverage, and then I use a very soft pink blush for a little color. I throw on a quick coat of mascara (only on the top), and use a nude color on my lip. I have a very red lip naturally, which I’m not a fan off, so I always tone it down with a nude overtone.

All of the products I use can be found under my Shop My Look

Happy summer and may all you beautiful babes stay fresh in the summer heat!

Yee Haw!!  I had an amazing 4 days in Nashville, and still cant believe that this was my first time visiting. My mother was born and raised in Selmer, TN, therefore I spent weeks during the summer there and still visit about 3 times a year, and it is my favorite place to be. Nashville however, was a bit different from where my mom grew up. There are so many different areas, and a lot of excitement. I met up with 3 girlfriends and it was a great 4 days off girl talk, beauty talk, sun, cocktails, shopping and food!

While I was able to visit the hip areas in Nashville, 12 South was my favorite. There are many boutiques to shop, and the cutest, quaint restaurants to eat and have cocktails, of course. I had breakfast at a small, nook of a restaurant called The Frothy Monkey. They had many options to choose from, and you cant beat $5 for an entire breakfast!! #Bartaco was the perfect spot to eat some chips and salsa, and of course have a (maybe 3) margaritas. #DraperJames is located on this strip, and its the cutest store ever. Reese Witherspoon is the founder of this brand, and its very Southern Belle chic. Serendipity was another adorable boutique where I picked up my TN state pendant.

We toured the Belle Meade Plantation, which has so much history. You can schedule a tour of the actual plantation, and they provide wine tastings throughout the day.  The blue ceilings on the porch caught my eye. Back in the day, in the deep South, people painted their ceilings a ‘Haint” blue color to represent the calming sky, which was also believed to ward off evil spirits called haints. The area surrounding the plantation is so beautiful. I recommend driving around to view the homes and their Southern charm.

Another great little pocket is an area called The Gulch. This is where we discovered Biscuit Love, which was worth the hour long wait. I was able to taste a bloody mary for the first time….yes, my first time….and I could have just had 3 of them for breakfast.

While the girls and I spent a day sunning at the pool, I had to keep applying my sunscreen, but then my girlfriend presented a loose mineral sunscreen powder stick,  which kept her face sunburn free all day!! The brand is Colorescience, and can be purchased at Sephora, or on Amazon. It retails for $57 and is totally worth the age spot free skin!! In addition, I use MAC Lightful tinted cream on my pool days. It gives me light, non streaking coverage and SPF 30 for protection.

Last, but not least, was my visit to the strip on Broadway. This area is busy 24 hours a day, and is considered the party place to be. We ate at 2 great restaurants, The Southern, and Merchant. There are many tourist style shops, and is the perfect place to pick up your cowboy hat & boots if you are lacking them in your wardrobe.

My Traveling Beauty Necessities

louis-vuitton-luggage

Every. Single.Time, I used to travel I would find myself questioning what I should bring, what I shouldn’t bring, what I need and don’t need and since I’ve moved to St. Louis and am traveling back and forth to Chicago quite often, I feel I have nailed the traveling necessities.

I usually purchase 2 of almost everything that I use, so that I can leave one set in my toiletry bag, and then its already set and ready to go. PS….. it creeps me that the word toilet is in a term we use for travel beauty products……

First and for most………dry shampoo!!! For anyone that knows me, I wash my hair about every 4 days, therefore, dry shampoo is a must. I have tried many, but I always go back to Stila “Jade Blossom” Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo. It smells amazing and leaves my hair smelling fresh and not oily!

Of course, you need to bring your morning routine, however I am one that likes to travel light so I will typically bring my Pond’s facial wipes, my Clinique repair serum, my moisturizer, and my eye cream. These are the 4 essentials I need for a clean, and rejuvenated face.

Makeup and lipstick are a must. I used to carry my bag with 30 different lipsticks, but now I just take the colors I need , to coordinate with my outfits. I always bring a nude lipstick because as you may already know……I wear lipstick EVERYDAY! My favorite nude is YSL Rouge Volupte’ in nude beige. I typically bring my entire makeup routine with, I just narrow it down to a single neutral eye shadow and everything else comes with me!

Next on my packing list are my hair tool essentials. Since I don’t wash my hair everyday, my curling iron collection has become my best friend. I don’t bring them all of course, just my 1 inch barrel. This gives me that subtle wave that says “I just woke up like this”…….ooooor at least I think it does.

Last but not least, there is always the question of, “Do I bring fragrance??” My answer is NO. I just bring a small bottle of my favorite oil. I know it won’t spill, and its small enough to carry on a plane.

Top 5 Drugstore Products I love

IMG_3780

How many times have you run out of your favorite mascara, face moisturizer or the dreaded eye cream you really needed because you did not sleep well the night before? This is my life on a daily basis and Ive had to make many quick runs to Walgreen’s or the local drug store. I thought I’d run through my favorite 5 picks so you don’t have to spend an hour looking at shelves of endless products

  • Moisturizer, Oil of Olay Regenerist micro sculpting cream. I’ve been using this for about a month now and my skin is loving it. It gives me amazing moisture without looking greasy, and it has kept my Rosacea tamed.
  • Eye Cream, Boot No 7 Lift & Luminate. This is the eye cream I always go back to after I’ve tried the one someone recommended for $60. It has caffeine in it so you get a quick release from your puffiness and it makes my concealer go on smooth with no creasing.
  • Mascara, Loreal Voluminous Extreme Volume Collagen in blackest black. I go back and forth between this mascara, Benefits They’re real and MAC’s false lashes mascara and I have to be honest, they ALL work the same. I was just recently asked if I had eyelash extensions while wearing the Loreal mascara. Totally worth the try!
  • Eye Liner, Rimmel London Glam Eyes. This is the easiest eyeliner I’ve ever had. The brush is nice and thin and its in liquid form so it slides right on. I have oily lids so my eyeliner never stays, but this one lasts throughout the day and doesn’t run onto my double eyelids.
  • Lips, Nivea Milk & Honey Natural Defense. I have 2 children who have chapped lips on a consistent basis, and I like to go to bed with moisturized lips and this has been my best find yet. It has shea butter in it so it literally feels like butter on your lips.

Finally!!!

So this whole “start a blog” thing was not as easy as I had expected to be. Many of you are probably thinking “yes it is”, but I decided to use 2 separate companies to start my domain, and then put together my blog……note to all…..USE ONE COMPANY!!! Well, now that its done, I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you all. Thank you to everyone who pushed me to do this, and promised me (I paid them) that you would follow me. A big thanks to everyone who has yet to block my posts and selfies on Facebook And Instagram. I promise they will get better and I’ll find a new place to take photos besides my car. Here we go!!!!
